Turn OFF your news alerts and focus on the positive

Welcome to Day 2 (or is it Day 200?) of what, for most of us, is a new reality. This is hard, but that is what this Daily Dose of Optimism is about… a bit of help as we adapt and cope in this newly (for the time-being) socially distant world.

But even if we’re socially distant (maybe we can start saying physically distant?), we can still be connected.  And while it is important to keep following the news for relevant health updates, TOO MUCH news isn’t good for your either. So here is a tip to help you stay optimistic:

Turn your news alerts off and limit your news consumption to just a few times a day.

It’s not easy (TRUST US, we know), but a little less news constantly popping on your screen will lessen your stress and help you focus on caring for yourself and others.   As the Buddha said, “Set your heart on doing good. Do good over and over again, and you will be filled with joy.” That’s a feeling we all could use more of right now.

With that in mind, here’s your DAILY DOSE OF OPTIMISM:

  • It might be Saint Patrick’s Day, but with all the restaurants and bars being closed, bartenders that have helped many of of us self-care for years (ahem) aren’t feeling so lucky.  BIG PROPS to Irish whiskey distiller Jameson, that pledged $500,000 to support the charity of the United States Bartenders’ Guild, helping raise awareness of the need that these individuals who literally work to serve, and serve to live.   [BTW: If you know of other efforts to support restaurant industry workers, send us the info here so we can share]

  • For example, have you always thought about mediating but didn’t have the time? Well, the awesome people at Journey Meditation reached out yesterday to share they are offering free Journey LIVE access for the next few weeks to help people keep calm and carry on.  Download the link to the app HERE.

  • Maybe you are looking for a bit of hip-hop help? The Wu-Tang Clan wants to help you stay safe and “Protect Ya Neck against the Coronavirus.” It's worth more than a Dollar Dollar Bill y’all.
